Lost in the Data Push

Data has been a big topic in recent years. The United States Fire Administration’s (USFA) National Fire Data Week came and went in May with four online presentations. The topics were timely, informative and addressed current issues regarding data use in fire and EMS departments.

However, fatality data missed the boat and the website. We have been without the yearly firefighter fatalities reports from 2021 and 2022 for quite awhile. Some may say that they are no loss. Despite the unclear information, we do need them.

We have been given a nice graphic summary of 2021, such as it is without detail. The links in the larger numbers of 2021 data on the reports page take you to the current year fatalities page.

Inquiries to the USFA about the reports have gone unanswered. Until then we’ll create a yearly report for you. Stay tuned.
