The United States Fire Administration has announced the death of Assistant Chief Mack G. Mays Jr., 47, of the Monelison Volunteer Fire Department on 10 July 2025.
On July 9, 2025, Assistant Chief Mack G. Mays Jr. responded to a false alarm at a commercial building. After returning home, he began experiencing chest pain and was found collapsed inside his house the following day, within 24 hours of responding to the alarm. Assistant Chief Mays was pronounced deceased due to a cardiovascular event.
