Ohio Firefighter Dies After House Fire

GREENWICH, Ohio — A firefighter with the Tri-Community Joint Fire Department died after being found unresponsive in the basement during a house fire on April 16.

The Huron County Coroner’s Office identified the firefighter as 41-year-old John Saunders. The fire occurred at a home in the 700 block of U.S. Route 224 near the intersection with New State Road South in Willard, WJW reported.

WTVG reported that Saunders was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead just after midnight.

An official cause and nature of death have not yet been reported.
