USFA On-Duty Death: Alaska

The United States Fire Administration has announced the death of Chief Robert “Bob” Chandler, 58, of the Red Dog Mine Fire Department on 27 November 2024.

On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Chief Robert “Bob” Chandler was teaching a class when he began to feel ill. Colleagues did a patient medical assessment and obtained a base set of vitals; everything was within normal limits. The next day, Wednesday, November 27, 2024, Chief Chandler was found deceased in his quarters from a cardiovascular emergency.
