USFA On-Duty Death: Connecticut

The United States Fire Administration has announced the death of Engineer Robert “Sharky” Sharkevich, Sr., 66, of the Wethersfield Volunteer Fire Department on 29 October 2024.

On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, Engineer Robert “Sharky” Sharkevich, Sr., was battling a brush fire on Lamentation Mountain in Berlin, CT, when the Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV) he was operating rolled over a steep, rocky incline. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Three other firefighters were taken to local hospitals with non life-threatening injuries.
