A Danville Fire Police officer died while working a school event, according to a social media post by the department.

Danville Fire Police Officer Robert “Bob” Myers, Sr., 95, had been working a trunk-or-treat event on Oct. 22, at Danville Primary School when he was discovered unresponsive after failing to return from a break, WOLF reported.

Despite efforts from first responders and bystanders to revive him, Myers did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Myers served as the past president of the Goodwill Hose Company and had been a member of the Fire Police since 1975.

It is not certain if Myer’s death will be listed by the USFA, but it is likely. Similar firefighter deaths have been recorded as on-duty deaths in the past.
