The United States Fire Administration has announced the death of Battalion Chief Christopher Eddy, 35, of Greene County Fire Rescue on 4 September 2024.

On Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, Battalion Chief Christopher Eddy responded to a tractor trailer fire on Georgia Route 15. When he opened the truck door, an explosion occurred killing him instantly. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
