The United States Fire Administration has announced the death of Captain James “Jim” Cova, 54, of the Affton Fire Protection District on 9 July 2024.

On Tuesday July 9, 2024, Captain James “Jim” Cova was found unresponsive at the firehouse after responding to several emergency responses during his shift. Firefighters immediately performed CPR and he was then transported to the local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The cause of death has yet to be determined.
