USFA On-Duty Death: New Jersey

The United States Fire Administration has announced the death of Deputy Chief Craig Matthew Konkle, 54, of the South Bound Brook Fire Department on 23 March 2024.

On Saturday, March 23, 2024, Deputy Chief Craig Matthew Konkle responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident. He assisted at the crash site until the vehicle was removed and the scene was terminated. He then returned home. At approximately 2 p.m. that same day, he suffered a medical emergency. 9-1-1 was immediately called and he was rushed to the local hospital where he was pronounced deceased from an apparent heart attack.
