The United States Fire Administration has announced the death of Captain Roy Franklin Whitt, 72, of the Route 504 Volunteer Fire Department on 12 March 2024.
On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, Captain Roy Franklin Whitt was on his way to escort the body of Elliott County EMS EMT Drake Adams, who died earlier in the day, to a funeral home. Captain Whitt was driving a fire department apparatus southbound on Route 504 when he lost control of the vehicle. He hit a guard rail and traveled down an embankment to the edge of a river. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
