USFA On-Duty Death: North Carolina

The United States Fire Administration has announced the death of Safety Officer Louis Dunston, 79, of the Youngsville Fire Department on 20 February 2024.

On Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, Safety Officer Louis Dunston was participating in departmental training. The training ended at 10:00 p.m. After the training, he went home. At approximately 9:58 p.m. the next evening, he was having a cardiac event and 9-1-1 was immediately called. EMS responded but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced deceased at his residence from an apparent heart attack.
