The United States Fire Administration has announced the death of Firefighter-Paramedic Chris Nelson, 55, of the Selma Fire Department on 8 February 2024.

On February 8, 2014, Firefighter-Paramedic Chris Nelson was injured and paralyzed during an incident while participating in training on duty. On February 8, 2024, Firefighter-Paramedic Nelson passed away from the injuries he sustained in the incident.
