Earlier: N.H. Firefighter Dies after Overtime Shift

The United States Fire Administration has announced the death of Lieutenant Charles “Chuck” Gallant, 56, of Rye Fire Rescue on 14 December 2023.

On Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023, Lieutenant Charles “Chuck” Gallant worked an overtime shift at the station where he participated in a training exercise and responded to a call. After his shift, he returned home and went to sleep. The next morning, he was found deceased by family members. It was later determined he passed away from a heart attack on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023.
