BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – One of two Birmingham firefighters wounded after a gunman shot them inside their firehouse five days ago has died.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service Firefighter Jordan Melton was pronounced dead Monday evening. He was 28 and had only been a firefighter for several weeks, AL.com reported.
Firefighter Jamal Jones was the other firefighter shot, and is recovering.
It has been over a year since a firefighter died in the line of duty due to violence. On 31 January 2022 Stockton Captain Vidal Fortuna was shot while at a dumpster fire.
