Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service Firefighter Jordan Melton was pronounced dead Monday evening. He was 28 and had only been a firefighter for several weeks, AL.com reported.

It has been over a year since a firefighter died in the line of duty due to violence. On 31 January 2022 Stockton Captain Vidal Fortuna was shot while at a dumpster fire.
