Texas Safety Chief Dies After On-Scene Medical Emergency

Update, 15 July: The USFA has officially listed the on-duty death of Fire Safety Chief Dan Hernandez Jr. The current number of on-duty deaths for the year is 43.

ELKHART, Texas — The Slocum Volunteer Fire Department announced on Facebook the death of Safety Chief Dan Hernandez.

On 7 July, Hernandez had responded to a call when he suffered a medical emergency. He was transported to Palestine Regional Medical Center and later transferred to UT Health in Tyler.

On 11 July, the department reported Hernandez had died.
