Second Chicago LODD in Two Days

CHICAGO – A second Chicago firefighter has died in as many days. The latest line of duty death occurred on Wednesday morning during a residential high-rise fire.

Firefighters responded to a fire on the 27th floor of the Lake Shore Drive high-rise at approximately 7:00 a.m., according to Fox 32.

During a press conference, Fire Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt said that the victim, Lieutenant Jan Tchoryk, had been climbing the stairs to the fire floor when he collapsed at the 11th floor. A mayday was transmitted and Lieutenant Tchoryk was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
