SEQUIM, Washington – Clallam County Fire District 3, along with Radio Pacific, have announced the death of a firefighter Thursday while on duty.
In a Facebook post the fire department press release said that Captain Charles “Chad” Cate was found deceased in his bunk on 12 January at approximately 7:00 a.m. when his crew attempted to wake him.
Captain Cate was last seen having responded to a fire alarm activation at a commercial building in the early morning hours. He and the other firefighters had returned to bed following the call.
Cate, 46, was hired by the department in 1997. He is survived by his wife and three children.
