The United States Fire Administration has announced the death of Lieutenant Matthew Anthony King, 44, of the Bernalillo County Fire Department on 16 July 2022.
On Saturday, July 16, 2022, Lieutenant Matthew Anthony King from the Bernalillo County Fire Department, and three members of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, were aboard a helicopter returning to Albuquerque after performing aerial wildland fire suppression at the East Mesa Fire. The helicopter crashed killing all four occupants. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
