The data regarding the interior traumatic line of duty deaths (or on-duty deaths as listed by the United States Fire Administration) has been updated with the death of FDNY Firefighter Timothy Klein.
The number stands at six as of 24 April. All six were killed in residential structure fires. Two of those fires, and fourth deaths, involved abandoned structures.
As far as company identity and assignment, four were assigned to an engine and two to a truck (one of these was on a quint operating as a truck). Four belonged to first due companies and two belonged to second due companies.
The leading cause of death is Collapse (4) followed by Unknown (2). Despite news and department information about the death of Firefighter Klein being caught in a ceiling collapse, his cause of death is currently listed as Unknown.
Trauma is the leading nature of death (4) followed by Crushed and Unknown with one each.
There have been no deaths during search and ventilation at this time.
See Current 2022 Inside Numbers and Inside Numbers 2021 for more information. This data is subject to change based on USFA, news, department, and investigation information and does not include non-traumatic deaths.
