EMMITSBURG, Maryland – The United States Fire Administration has announced the death of Firefighter Joseph “Joey” Wright, 39, of the Nicholas Fire Protection District on 24 September 2021.
On Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021, Firefighter Joseph “Joey” Wright participated in strenuous mandatory ladder training with the Nichols Fire Protection District. After the training was completed, he continued to work at the department assisting with the CAD system. He then left and went to work where the onset of chest pains and dizziness occurred. He was sent to an immediate care center where they evaluated him and transported him by ambulance to the hospital. He remained in the Intensive Care Unit for 10 days before passing away on Friday, Sept. 24, 2021, from numerous heart attacks.
