WILMINGTON, Delaware – A 25-year-old volunteer firefighter was fatally struck while assisting a motorist on Interstate 95 in Delaware on Sunday.

In a Facebook post the Wilmington Manor Fire Company stated that at approximately 4;15 a.m. Firefighter Cecelia Escobar-Duplan had come upon a vehicle that had spun out on I-95 at the Delaware Avenue off-ramp and was attempting to assist the driver when she was struck by a passing vehicle.

Firefighter Escobar-Duplan was transported to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
